Abstract

The trials of the high speed gunboat (length 60 feet, beam 9 feet; trial speed 20.03 knots), built by Yarrow and Co. For an unnamed South American Government, reported in The Engineer, vol. 72, 11 December 1891, p. 476, were conducted with the vessel in light trim, whilst the trials of the aluminium torpedo boat (length 60 feet, beam 9 feet 3 inches; trial speed 20.05knots) built by Yarrow and Co. Of Poplar, and reported in The Engineer, vol 78, 5 October 1894, pp. 292 and 294, were conducted with a load of three tons, hence the difference in speed of roughly half a knot between the two vessels.
