Abstract

'At the recent Electrical Exhibition at Philadelphia, the Ordnance Department of the Navy showed an extensive torpedo equipment, including a Lay-Haight torpedo, propelled by a reservoir of compressed carbonic acid gas [carbon dioxide], operating a small Brotherhood engine which drives the screw. The torpedo is navigated, and the charge exploded by means of a keyboard through a single wire.'
