Abstract

Messrs. Spencelayh and Archer, of the Medway Iron Works, Chatham, had just completed the delivery to the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, 500 of the largest torpedoes (mines), each containing 5 cwt. of gun cotton; a large quantity of torpedoes containing 3 cwt. of gun cotton had also be manufactured and delivered to Woolwich by Spencelayh and Archer, the same firm had also taken out a contract to manufacture a large number of torpedoes containing a 1 cwt. charge of gun cotton.
