Abstract

"As the naval battle space moves from the high seas to shallower waters, commanders worldwide are needing more and better data on the littoral environment with the next generation of mine hunting systems likely to be based on AUVs i.e. autonomous underwater vehicles. In Australia, Defence has already trialed numerous commercial AUVs to meet its Sea 1778 (Deployable MCM-organic mine countermeasures) JP 1770 (Rapid Environmental Assessment) and Sea 1100 (Long Range Persistent Subsurface Detection Capability) requirements with DSTO also now conducting substantial collaborative research with Singapore on networking AUVs."
