Abstract

"The L5 was developed during the early 1970s as a successor to the L3 and was the first heavyweight ASW torpedo of 533.4 mm (20.99 inches) for the French Navy. It was also the first weapon developed under the direction of the DTCN (Direction Technique des Construction Navales) which was later renamed DCN International, earlier weapons having been developed by Sintra-Alcatel. The weapon was being manufactured by ECAN, Saint Tropez, in 1997."
