"Germany is to bolster its submarine force with two additional Type 212A air-independent propulsion (AIP) attack submarines. The Type 212A submarines fulfil a wide range of roles and are capable of conducting operations against other submarines and surface vessels, collecting acoustic intelligence (ACINT) and carrying out surveillance operations right up to the surf-line while remaining undetected."
