Abstract

"Longstanding plans to give UK Royal Navy (RN) warships a reactive soft-kill torpedo defence system will go forward for a Main Gate approval in early 2001. The Defence Procurement Agency (DPA) programme should deliver an initial Surface Ship Torpedo Defence (SSTD) system to the fleet in mid 2004. The DPA's Torpedo Countermeasures integrated project team (TCM IPT) has also outli8ned a procurement roadmap for enhanced medium- and long-term SSTD capabilities. One option under active consideration is a hard-kill Anti-Torpedo Torpedo (ATT) for countering advanced threats including wake-homing torpedoes."
