Abstract

Mr. Schichau, of Elbing, Prussia, had managed to achieve a balance between high speed and seaworthiness with the design and construction of the first-class torpedo boat Fu-Lung (length144 feet, beam 16 feet 5 inches, draught 7 feet two and a half inches; speed 24.23 knots) built for the Chinese Government and fitted with an inverted vertical triple expansion marine engine operating at 360 revolutions on steam supplied at 175 pounds per square inch by a 1,600 indicated horsepower forced draught locomotive boiler.
