Abstract

Despite a decline in shipbuilding activity Messrs. Yarrow and Co. had thirty-five large torpedo boats in hand which were being built to the order of British and foreign governments. In addition to the large order for the Royal Navy that had been placed in the spring of 1885, vessels were being built for Japan, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Chile, and Austria.
