Abstract

The torpedo boat destroyer Niji (length 220 feet 9 inches, beam 20 feet 6 inches; draught 5 feet 3 inches) built by Yarrow and Company, Poplar, for the Imperial Japanese Government was launched with steam up on the 16th of December 1899, and maintained a speed of 31.206 knots during a preliminary trial conducted two days later.
