Abstract

The torpedo boat destroyer Akebono built by Yarrow and company, Poplar, for the Imperial Japanese Government, was taken on a trial run from Greenwich to the Mouse Lightship and back in mid-June 1899. The Akebono and her sister ships were fitted with twin 20 and a half-inch by 31 and a half-inch by 34-inch (2) by 18-inch stroke 6,000 indicated horsepower (total) triple-expansion marine engines with Yarrow, Schlick, and Tweedy balancing.
