Abstract

The official full-speed trial of the torpedo boat destroyer Griffon took place on the 1st of June 1897. Six runs on the measured mile were made, and a mean speed of 30.12 knots was recorded. The Griffon was the tenth Birkenhead 30-knot destroyer built by Laird Brothers that had successfully passed its official trials. The 30-knot destroyer H.M.S. Wolf built by Laird Brothers for the British Government was launched on the 2nd of June 1897.
