Abstract

The torpedo boat destroyers Havock and Surly were seriously damaged during a mobilisation of this class in 1896. Both ends of one of Havock's intermediate-pressure cylinders were knocked out when a connecting-rod bolt fractured. The Surly also developed a large crack in the port high-pressure slide valve casing during the same manoeuvres.
