Abstract

The Editor of The Engineer advocated the construction of a "pure torpedo ship" in which the vessel's armament would be confined to torpedo tubes and a few 3-pounders to repel torpedo boat attacks. The vessels displacement would be between 2000 and 2500 tons, and the engines boilers would be capable of propelling it at a speed of 20 knots if "pushed."
