Abstract

In early September 1892 a small open boat (length 25 feet, beam 5 feet 8 inches) built by Messrs. Vosper and Co. engineers of Southampton and powered by a Root's petroleum launch engine was sighted running on the Thames between Hammersmith and Blackfriars.
