Abstract

Four methods of torpedo warfare were discussed, namely: submarine mines; towed torpedoes; spar torpedoes and the Whitehead torpedo. Of these the Whitehead torpedo was considered to be the most promising as a weapon of offence. It was suggested that a net made of 1 inch round bars would be the best way of protecting a vessel against Whitehead torpedoes.
