Summary

Jacques Augustin Normand succeeded to the management of his family's shipbuilding business Augustin Normand et Cie in 1871. Having been trained in the family's shipyard from childhood he excelled in the design and construction of torpedo boats and destroyers building over 80 of these vessels for the French Navy. Examples of his work can also be found in the nineteenth and early twentieth century fleets of Russia, Japan, Spain, Denmark, Sweden and United States of America.
