Summary

Captain C.A. McEvoy was an engineer and Confederate naval captain.

He patented several devices and systems to improve existing mine designs, including detonation and safety devices. He also patented improvements on the existing spar type torpedo and in the 1870s developed his own type of 'drifting' torpedo. The drifting torpedo was not propelled or controlled but rather had a lot in common with the mine.
