- Abstract
Very little is known about Hiram Berdan's time in Russia, however by the mid-1860s he had designed a unique remote-controlled torpedo, which could be operated from a ship or the shore. Variations of this were described in the New York Times Herald, June 6, 1886, and the Scientific American of May 21, 1887.
