Abstract

"Artillery rocket systems. Also referred to as multiple rocket launchers (MRLs), are increasingly being deployed all over the world. Positive characteristics of these systems include the fact that they complement conventional towed and self-propelled (SP) tube artillery systems and can rapidly deliver a massive amount of firepower, often at longer ranges. However, a key drawback is that these systems are 'area effect weapons'; consequently, as ranges increase the weapons become less accurate. In addition, they consume large quantities of munitions, which requires a long logistics tail."
