Abstract

The Pall Mall Gazette reported that: "The practical experiments recently instituted by the naval authorities of Germany with Whitehead's fish torpedo, in the presence of General von Stosch, Chief of the Admiralty, have yielded very indifferent results. Though in smooth water the aim could be depended upon, the slightest current has proved sufficient to divert the submarine missile from its course, even where the distance to be traversed was only small. The Admiralty are not satisfied with these results, and have given orders for the new torpedo boats, now in course of construction, to lie without being completed, until further instructions."
