Abstract

The report of the board of officers appointed to examine the wrecks of the four Spanish armoured cruisers sunk of Santiago made interesting reading for naval experts throughout the world. According to the Engineering News one of the most exciting lessons taught by this experience was that torpedo tubes on battleships and cruisers when fitted above the water line were an unnecessary complication and a danger to the ship itself.
