Abstract

"In commenting upon the new American submarine boat in The Engineer of August 31st, the significance of the name of one of these - the Mocassin - was questioned. It appears, however, from a correspondent's note on this matter, that the mocassin is a particularly venomous snake, one species of which is known as the water mocassin or water viper, so that the Mocassin will be a good companion for the Adder and Viper.
