Abstract

The Editor of The Engineer continues the debate regarding very light construction of the propelling machinery of the Royal Navy's men-of-war and concludes that the full speed power of most of the Royal Navy's ships as stated in parliamentary reports, is from 25 to 30 per cent, than that at which it is safe to work their engines; and this fact should always be taken into consideration in estimating the value of the Royal Navy's ships for war purposes.
