'A very interesting application of the electric telephone to torpedoes has recently been effected by Captain C. A. McEvoy, U.S.A., of 18, Adam-street, Adelphi. This gentleman, who is well-known as an authority on torpedoes, has utilised Professor Bell's articulating telephone for the purpose of testing buoyant contact torpedoes, large numbers of which have been provided by nearly all maritime governments for the defence of their rivers and harbours in the event of war…'
