- Abstract
Following the article published in Engineering on the 24th of May 1872, the Admiralty decided to ask Captain Harvey and Messrs. Vavasseur and Co. to manufacture another twenty-five Harvey torpedoes and the necessary brake gear etc. There were also unsubstantiated rumours that the Whitehead torpedo had not come up to the Admiralty's expectations and that the authorities at Woolwich were experimenting with it with the aim of improving its performance.
