- Abstract
'The official trial of the Howell torpedo may be looked for in the course of three or four weeks. This torpedo, an invention of Capt. John A. Howell of the navy, will be brought into a competitive test with the English Whitehead. The results of the trial will determine whether Howell or Whitehead torpedoes shall be adopted for American war ships.'
