Abstract

"Biography is a distinct type of historical investigation with some specific theoretical assumptions regarding the unique quality of individual contributions to events, and their value as moral and educational examples. It also tends to be receptive to nationalism, hero-worship, and other forms of partisan history, as is clearly exemplified in biographical studies of British engineers in the "Heroic Age' of the Industrial Revolution."
