Abstract

"The Fleet Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Unit is giving the Royal Navy its first exposure to the potential offered by autonomous underwater vehicles. REMUS 100 characteristics and capabilities: Each REMUS element consists of two UUV's in their shock-isolated transit boxes, two auxiliary boxes, two Pelican cases (for wet and dry equipment) two operators, and a medium inflatable boat from which to launch and recover. In terms of anatomy a REMUS 100 system comprises the 1.6 metre long vehicle itself, its navigation and sensor payloads, a power/data interface module and a ruggedised laptop computer.
