Abstract

"The first warshot Mk 48 Mod 7 Advanced Capability (ADCAP) Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System (CBASS) heavyweight torpedoes have been delivered to the US Navy (USN) and on the 7th of December were loaded aboard the Los Angeles-class submarine USS Pasadena in Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. The Mk 48 Mod 7 CBASS torpedo employs sonar signal-processing algorithms that have been 'tuned' to the harsh shallow-water acoustic environment to allow it to defeat countermeasures in the littoral. The CBASS is the product of a joint engineering, development, manufacturing and support project between the US and Australia. The first water tests of the CBASS were carried out in February 2005 with an operational test in October 2005."
