Robert Whitehead spent several days in England in early September 1876 promoting his improved torpedo, however at a price of 400 pounds sterling per torpedo with manufacturing rights for purchases of over 50 the Admiralty was reluctant to make any purchases as their own improved Royal Laboratories model was achieving similar if not better results.
