Abstract

A torpedo boat (length 59 feet 6 inches, beam 7 feet 6 inches, draught 1 foot 3 inches; speed 16 knots) fitted with a 10.5 inch by 6 inch by 10 inch stroke 100 horsepower direct acting condensing engine operating at 350 revolutions per minute on steam supplied at 160 pounds per square inch by a Herreshoff coil boiler was built for the British Government by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, Bristol, Rhode Island, U.S.A.
