Three stockers on board the torpedo boat destroyer Mallard (length 210 feet overall, 208 feet between perpendiculars, beam 19 feet 6 inches; draught 7 feet displacement 310 tons, light, 350 tons, full load) were badly scalded when some of the boiler tubes burst. After the accident the Mallard was laid off and replaced by the Porcupine (length 204 feet 3 inches overall, 200 feet between perpendiculars, beam 19 feet 6 inches, draught 8 feet; displacement 275 tons, light, 320 tons full load) in the Medway instructional flotilla.
