Oil was tried as a fuel in the United States torpedo boat Talbot (length 100 feet overall, beam 12 feet 6 inches, draught 3 feet 3 inches, mean; displacement 46 tons). The oil fuel apparatus was removed after the trial because it did not increase the steaming radius of the vessel.
