The Parsons' steam turbine propelled torpedo boat Viper set new speed records during her trials. The mean speed attained for six runs on the measured mile was 36.58 knots, whilst the mean of the two best consecutive runs was 36.85 knots, making the Viper the fastest vessel afloat at that time.
