The author drew the Editors' attention to the fact that the speed of the French first-class torpedo boat No. 212 as reported in 'Dockyard notes.' The Engineer, vol. 88, 10 November 1899, p. 477, was well below the official trial speeds of torpedo boats No. 212 and 213, these being 26.81 and 26.87 knots respectively, thus creating a false impression of the capabilities of these vessels.
