Abstract

According to official Japanese sources eight torpedo catchers (displacement 279 tons; 5,400 indicated horsepower) were being built in England in 1898. The first of these was to be completed in June 1898, with the remainder to be completed by March 1899. There were also three, 150 tons displacement torpedo boats being built in France, and a fourth in Germany.
