Abstract

The torpedo boat destroyer Mallard, built by Thornycroft and Company, Chiswick, collided with a merchant vessel whilst out with the Medway instruction flotilla in March 1898, and sustained such damage to her bows that she had to return immediately to Sheerness, and from there to Chatham, for repairs.
