Abstract

The German torpedo boat S. 26 (length 128 feet, beam 16 feet, draught 6 feet; displacement 85 tons) was lost whilst returning from Wilhelmshaven to Kiel after attending the naval manoeuvres. This was the second time that the S. 26 had been involved in an accident, in the first accident the S. 26 turned turtle with the Duke Frederick William of Mecklenburg on board. The Duke and several members of the crew were drowned, but nine members of the crew were saved by torpedo boat S. 27, which was accompanying the S. 26.
