Abstract

The Thornycroft water-tube boilers built at Keyham for H.M.S. Proserpine had an evaporative rate of seven pounds of water per pound of coal which was considered to be far from satisfactory when compared with an evaporative rate in excess of eight pounds of water per pound of coal for the Thornycroft water-tube boilers built at Chiswick.
