Abstract

The Editor noted that some problems had been experienced with the British Government's torpedo boat destroyer programme. Ninety of these had been ordered: forty-two with speeds from 26-27 knots; forty-five with a speed of 30 knots; and three with speeds of 32-33 knots. The greater part of the first class had been delivered and accepted, but only five of the 30 knot boats had been handed over, and the three 32-33 knot boats had not been completed. It was also expected that another fifty torpedo boat destroyers were to be ordered in 1897-1898.
