Abstract

During Admiralty supervised trials in March 1896 the torpedo boat destroyer Desperate (length 208 feet, beam 19 feet 6 inches, draught 7 feet; displacement 310 tons) built by Messrs. Thornycroft and Company, Chiswick, for the British Government, achieved a mean speed of 31.035 knots during four runs over the measured mile.
