Abstract

A reproduction of a photograph of H.M.S. Hornet (length 180 feet, beam 18 feet 6 inches; draught 7 feet 3 inches) running at a speed of 28 knots. When travelling at full speed H.M.S. Hornet had a turning circle equal in radius to her own length, with minimal angle of heel. No vertical vibration was apparent at full speed as Alfred Yarrow had used his system of "bob weights" to balance the engines and reduce vibration.
