Abstract

The preliminary trials of the torpedo boat destroyer H.M.S. Hornet built and engined by Messrs. Yarrow and Co. of Poplar, and fitted with their patent water-tube boilers were carried out at the Maplins in early February 1894. At the time of the trials the Hornet achieved a speed of 23 knots with only four of her eight boilers fitted.
