Abstract

In early November 1893 am eight hours' economical speed trial of the torpedo boat destroyer Havock (length overall 185 feet, length between perpendiculars 180 feet, beam 18 feet 6 inches, draught 7 feet 3 inches, displacement 275 tons; trial speed 27 knots) built by Yarrow and Co. for the British Government, was conducted in order to ascertain the vessel's radius of action. It was found that at a speed of 11.2 knots the coal consumption was less than a quarter of a ton per hour.
