Abstract

The steam launch Nettle and a number of launch engines built by Nettlefolds Ltd. Of Birmingham were exhibited at the Cardiff Exhibition. These reliable high speed 25 horsepower engines operating with steam supplied at 120 pounds per square inch by a boiler fitted with a closed ash pit and forced draught were ideal for small launches, driving fans, and centrifugal pumps. Although these were not strictly a new departure from contemporary launch engine building they had some interesting features.
