Abstract

Mr. A. G. Mumford of Colchester built a 11-inch by 22-inch by 16-inch stroke inverted-vertical cross-compound condensing marine engine, with cylinders supported by six turned steel columns, and cylinder covers made from turned and polished plate steel, operating with steam supplied at 80 pounds per square inch by a horizontal marine return-tubular boiler.
