- Abstract
The author was of the opinion that no locomotive boiler should be subjected to six continuous hours of forced draught firing. He argued that forced combustion meant high temperatures, and when produced by forcing, localised the heat sources, which, in turn forced the water from the inside surfaces of the boiler, and in doing so caused softening of the exposed spots.
