Abstract

During the cruise of The Evolutionary Squadron off the coast of Ireland it was found that the smaller torpedo boats were only suitable for operations in smooth water such as would be found in harbours, rivers and bays. A possible solution to the problem was proposed in the form of a lightweight, high-speed, steel boat displacing 250 tons.
