Abstract

The author was of the opinion that the tubes in the locomotive boilers used in torpedo boats were placed too close together to allow the water to circulate freely. If the space between each tube was greater, the tube-plate well stayed, and the steel ferrules driven into the interior of each tube corrugation of the boiler shell would be unnecessary.
